Landscaping an outdoor area for a David Lloyd Health Club
This large outdoor area at the David Lloyd Health Club in Beckenham wasn’t getting used as much as the Club wished.
With the summer months coming up (and hopefully some good weather) they wanted to create an outdoor space that could be used and enjoyed by the whole family. The plan was to landscape the play area and pool surround with artificial grass and put in place some nice paving to join up the different activity areas.

Randell Garden Design asked us to partner them on this project. They began the project by installing the hard landscaping. This included a paved seating area for families to sit on whilst their kids could run off energy in the play area and a number of new pathways.

To make the pool area more inviting we put down our Outfield Artificial Grass as a surface layer. It is a good product for pool surrounds for it drains well, is not as slippery as paving or tiles and it also looks great if installed correctly. Once the grass was installed the plan was to place sun beds on top of the grass.

When all the playground equipment was securely installed we were able to fit our artificial grass product. It is a good surface to place around play equipment as it cushions falls and it prevents your little ones getting covered in mud and dirt.
In all over 100 tonnes of soil were removed by Randell’s team around the pool and play areas. Our installation of the groundworks consisted of a 4inch layer of Type 1 and a top layer of 0.5mm granite dust. We fitted our timber fixings around the perimeter before installing over 300 sqm of artificial grass.

The whole job took 4 weeks from start to finish. Laying the grass alone took 5 days.
What David Lloyd was left with was a fantastic area for its members to sunbathe and relax in. The pool area looked so much more inviting. Parents could now let their children run around safely in the play area whilst enjoying a coffee on the new seating.
